Jesus was a Liberal

Filed under: Uncategorized — ononehand @ 9:36 pm

I started a new facebook community, which I am proud of. It’s called “Jesus was a Liberal.” The content reads as follows:

We are Christians and non-Christians. We know Jesus wasn’t a Neo-Con. We read the Bible and we know better. (The picture says it all.)

Matthew 5:9 – Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Matthew 5:7 – Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Matthew 5:38 – Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Matthew 7:1 – Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Matthew 19:21 – If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Matthew 19:24 – And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Luke 6:20 – And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

Luke 6:27 – But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you.

Luke 11:43 – Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

Luke 16:13 – No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Luke 18:25 – For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

John 8:15 – Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

John 12:47 – And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

Acts 3:44 – All who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 they would sell their property and possetions and divide them all as according to each one’s need.

John 4:8 – He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

John 4:16 – And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Anyone who wants to start the community at their own school, feel free. Also feel free to quote me verbatim and use the same bible verses and picture. After geting a decent number of liberal Christian members, I went on to the Campus Republicans community and sent a few of them offers to join.

  3. YES. lol.

It’s supposed to be fun, it’s supposed to make everybody laugh, it’s supposed to be inflamatory and riotous. The CU Republicans are having a “straight pride rally.” That raised the bar. And oh yeah, their president bombed somebody.

You have a good point, though. I say this picture works for the sake of art, which is meant to be controversial, but it isn’t such a good polemic statement. But perhaps the picture can get some interesting retoric and imagery out into the general consciousness, and perhaps that will alter the language and alter people’s attitudes. It’s like adding acid tablets to a swimming pool; the stuff you put in might be WAY too strong, but it dilutes in the pool tweaks the PH, which was initially too alkaline.

  4. Moreover I think it would be more appropriate to say that jesus was a socialist or even an anarchist.

  7. Not only a liberal, but a new-age hippie! (Also possibly a little tiny bit crazy, but we all forgive him for that. The crazy people are the ones who change things.)
