Waste

Pillows are a waste of tears
but

crying is a waste of breath.

Cigarettes waste moments of a singed life
already wasted on waiting.

The only thing not wasted
are those rare times you don’t think –
gazing at the wound roots of a twisted tree,
pulling the ground up
and scattering it skyward as a million exploding leaves

that inevitably fall.

  2. The whole thing is good but this “gazing at the wound roots of a twisted tree, pulling the ground up and scattering it skyward as a million exploding leaves,” is some of the best imagery I’ve come across in some time. That ain’t no joke.

  3. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times, you’re a really good writer.
